Lily was taking control of her life, and helping the person that had been there for her whole life when she was in need of help. She took a huge risk even though the stakes were high, she was breaking many laws and disobeying her father.When I read this it makes me think of how I want to be like Lily. She is took control of her situation

I am reading the book The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. In the book, the protagonist Lily lives in South Carolina in 1964. She lives with just her abusive father and a black nanny Rosaleen. Her mother died when she was young. During this time there was a lot of segregation, which led Rosaleen to be beat and sent to jail for her actions. My absolute favorite part of the book is when Lily snuck out from her ho
