And again, IV in Songs for a Colored Singer reminded me of Wallace Stevens Domination of Black. North and South published in 1946, Domination first published in 1916. By no means a copy. The two poems are nothing alike. But the rhythm took me back to that old favorite.

Little Exercise - another excellent one.

Roosters - is that a reference to Of Mere Being by Wallace Stevens - for that matter, maybe this came first, I'll have to look that up. Excellent poem. I could read it 20 more times and still be unpacking it. Is it roosters as humankind? Roosters as men. And Roosters as roosters?

Physically starred in my copy: Cirque d'Hiver, Florida, Jeronimo's House, that's three of the last four poems I've read since my last update. I will absolutely re-read this entire book.

Sorry to state the obvious, but these poems are kind of blowing me away.
