Tremendous. Ugwu ended up being my favorite character. My favorite relationship was between Olanna and Kainene.

The constant rape and/expectation of sex by soldiers makes the point that rape is a weapon of war.

Scared for Ugwu and then deeply disappointed that he participated in gang rape. Also, the description of how soldiers are expected and entitled to "take" women underscores that even "revolutionaries" view women from a patriarchal lens.
