Chapter 12 summary:
The chapter starts by exploring Mary's backstory, whilst caring for the children, her background is revealed that she has an eating disorder. We also see Mary starting to transition into an adult because she starts drinking coffee because "its what her mother did when she was tired." Later, Sam's "magic powers" happen again spontaneously and him along with his friends run off in fear.

On page 108, Sam looks around in a power plant to find a room full of guns, then he "left the closet and closed the door firmly. But this hand rested on the door awhile. Then he shook his head. No. It had not gotten to that point. Not yet" I found it interesting that Sam believes that at one stage he will need a gun, he knows that something bad will happen and he will need it for protection from the other children.

Chapter 10 & 11:
Mallet, Orc and Howard go against Sam, Quinn, Astrid and Edilio in a verbal fight. The children are starting to split apart and go against each other. The chapter then ends with Lana, her dog reappears but she doesn't know if it is real life or not. Then Sam heads off to a power plant with his friends to find Little Pete. Then they realise they are living in a "red and pink zone"

Chapter 8 starts with a girl named Mary who is taking care of young children and babies. She is taking on responsibilities that she probably would not have had before the adults disappeared, as she is only a young girl. We then hear stories of how Sam has been a natural leader and hero his whole life, and everyone is counting on him now more than ever. We are experiencing different types of people (mothering, leader)

I am somewhat enjoying the book Gone, however in the last 2 chapters i have enjoyed it more. They have introduced more story lines but then gone back to the main one and i think in the end all the of the side story lines will meet up with the main one. Do the adults know they're gone? Is there any adult left? Will the children begin dividing into different groups (i.e leaders, workers, followers)?

Lana was driving in the car with her grandfather when he disappeared, she is wandering the woods with her dog trying to find her way back home whilst trying to survive. Lana is starving and after her dog is attacked by a lion, she does not have the strength to save his life. It then goes back to the other kids who are confused about the adults vanishing.
