The author gave his account on a similar experience of near death. Just like Chris, so he’s relating to Chris in a way by saying he wasn’t suicidal, he didn’t have a death wish.
He was just a kid that was running away from him problems and believed he could find himself in his obsession. That obsession being the wild.

I’m starting to pick this back up after a year and I can see why I liked it.
Right now, we’re just going through different accounts of people that have disappeared off into wilderness’.
They all have the same motivations but all are never seen again because they seem to be underprepared in some way.

Chris settled down in a kind of run down town full of trailer parks and strip malls. He got a job at McDonald’s and even a bank account at the local bank, all under his original name. Chris instead of Alex which was rare of him. He used his own social security number. He didn’t like to wear socks and had a smell so he quit after 3 weeks but he stayed for 2 years. When he left his job, he met up with Jan B again.

So far I’m pretty invested in this book. I knew I would be. I like mysteries or things that people have seemingly unexplainable done. It’s pretty short so I think I’m gonna focus on finishing it. The only thing I can say that distracts me are all the different mentions of locations. I know they are important for context but I know zero about that type of thing. It’s still good enough to keep me hooked.
