Is this something worth reading? The blurb was so confusing that I passed on it.

I'm not far in. So far, the flashbacks to Adam's childhood are the most interesting part, and I like Ean's perspective on things, having been raised by dragons. I haven't read any of the other books in the series and i guess i should have. There are all these italicized words like need and food and keep, and while there's a glossary in the begining of the book, I still don't really understand the implications of these words. I'm enjoying it, but feeling a little lost.
