Terry Brooks feels like a warm old friend at this point.

Ilse Witch is one of the superior Shannara novels, and thus promises to be a superior trilogy. I love it. The characters. The pacing. The story. It's old fashioned adventure storytelling, and I'm here for all of it.

Oh look! Me, loving another book by Terry Brooks.

This might be the best first volume in the series yet. The writing is a huge step up from the Heritage series, the character work is richer and the concept is, whilst still tropey, full of intrigue and wonder.

Terry Brooks writes the kind of stories I fall into with glee. He's not the best in some ways, but for me he's still one of the greats.

Make sense of that, if you can.

I'd have loved this book when I was 12.

I'm a Brooks enthusiast. I will champion him, even though I accept all criticisms as valid.

I just love his books, okay? 🤣

This one has some of his best character work yet.
