This book tells of a girl who is treated like a slave rather than a daughter by two cruel people. She is a self-taught singer, and is sent to New York to record an album. Throughout the book, the girl, Maude, develops in many ways: she finds her true identity, strengthens her sound, and learns about her family and what is important to her. She was written to inspire people to work hard and count their blessings.

Anna Adams was born in France, but was partially raised in the U.S. She is constantly fascinated by both stories in French and English. She is currently living in Paris, France where she studies as a law student. When she isn't writing, Anna Adams loves to travel all over Europe. I can tell from her background, that her stories are greatly influenced by where she has lived and grown.

In this book, the main character, Maude, has a passion for the art of singing. In my real life, I absolutely love to sing, which is partly the reason I chose to read this book; because the book centers around her love of singing and music, I relate to Maude which makes me more emotionally invested in this particular book. This makes it more enjoyable for me, rather than someone who knows nothing about music.
