"I was a twenty-two-year-old single white female alone in a strange country where my sister had been killed." Of course you were. It's not like the publishing companies of paranormal romance novels can have a NON-white main character to read about. [image error]

This protagonist is really annoying. I'm hoping there will be some character development where she's concerned because at this point in time she has less depth than the all-important, frequently mentioned Barbie that she is compared to.

"Now I understood the slightly exotic slant to the dark eyes, the deep gold skin, the bad attitude. I didn't think there could be a more primitive pairing of genes." So, the protagonist relates looking "exotic" and relatively dark-skinned to being "primitive." This book recycles the tired old motif of dark physical traits being associated with something evil or sinister. It's racist, and it's also been done before.
