I knew fealty to Donald Trump was running the GOP today, but Cheney paints it as a cowering, spineless, fear of--if not Trump himself--Trump's most rabid followers. It fits. It makes sense. It's a viable explanation for why the Republican Party has largely abandoned conservatism in favor of Trump's moodswing populism.

She’s convinced me.

I’ve been enjoying this read. While it’s still very strong and articulate, it’s starting to buckle under the weight of Cheney’s ego and self-importance. While she was in House leadership, she was also a two-term congresswoman from a state with one congressional district. Her reading of her own stature is over-inflated here.

Cheney wrote a very enjoyable page-turner. It has that quality where you want to keep reading and you get interested and invested in the narrative. I still don’t know to what degree she’s truly right, but this is an extremely compelling form of the argument! And I’m always on the lookout for the best form of a given argument.

Cheney is certainly spinning a compelling narrative. She lays out her case against Trump with strong facts and a reasonable sprinkling of her own emotion. I’m not sure whether I’m on Cheney’s side or Trump’s (or somewhere else entirely), but this is a great summary of her case so far. Very readable and well-written, too!
