Pulitzer prize winner?? Reads like the pompous name dropping memoir of exactly the kind of intellectual that might write this. If all the superfluous description and obscure references and ostentatious puffery were eliminated, this 650 page tome would have been a manageable fun 200 pg adventure. Omg this is a slog.

If there wasn't a word for pretentious self important drivel, Michael Chabon would invent one. More than 50% through but just couldn't take it any more, after Part IV Chapter 10 consisted of one massive run on sentence with more adjectives and descriptive sub clauses than even exist. (OK, maybe it was 3 sentences)
