The settings and plot relate to me because when I was 11 my mom had a bunch of restrictions on me, like how penny can't go to the pool or beach. Also, I was just dipping my toe into the pool of my Jewish culture, and I was scared to be Jewish but when I was with my Jewish family I was a lot happier and proud like how penny is scared to be Italian after world war 2.

Jennifer L. holm is a family of 5, all of which are boys except for her. She was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and she went to school at Dickinson. She first worked in TV but then she stared writing when she got married after she had her kids. She is Italian, and that inspired some of her writings.
