This book is up there for one of my favorite reads! The plot and characters are very unique. The chapters flashes back and forth from the future to present day. The main character Emilio Sanchez is a Jesuit priest who specializes in linguistics. Through his missionary and teaching work he meets the other unique and talented characters. Once together they discover life on another planet !

The themes are so complex it’s hard to describe. I’ve never read a book that somehow mixes theology and science fiction. The characters are so complex and rich. Each has a unique back story that lead them to the mission to Rakhat. They’ve landed in Rakhat in the past and Emilio is starting to regain his strength both physically and mentally in the future.
