although it's a raw voice, there's something kinda of authentic and compelling about the two MCs and their relationship with their world. The writing is very filmic, the descriptions of movement almost like stage direction. The first scene where Ev confronts Joey in his bedroom made me think of Tennessee Williams. It's unlike contemporary fiction. Perhaps the author is older? Perhaps from Joey's era?
