five stars for the eumenides always. i love the furies they’re such bitchy scary little freaks and i love athena cause she’s hot as fuck and she predictably gets what she wants in every myth. also i love that she promises the furies respect in the end and they’re like ok fine lol and then they get along and live happily ever after

four stars for libation bearers which centers on orestes enacting justice for the house of agamemnon by murdering his mother… who murdered his father… lolz. anyways. loved the different reunions between orestes and his sister versus orestes and his mother, neither of them recognizing him among initial viewing. none of the characters can escape their fates or justice itself i’m excited for the eumenides

4 stars for aeschylus’s oresteia: agamemnon, because i love an insane woman who kills her husband and his lover after sleeping with his cousin! then again the husband did kill their daughter after all. motifs of fire for enlightenment and truth and purple robes, seen both in a scene of welcome and assassination,,, also lions for predatory characters/forces. raises the question of justice and how to deliver it

persians, the play about the naval battle off salamis amidst the persian wars between the persian empire and the greeks: aeschylus takes the perspective of the persians, interestingly enough, delving deeply into their sorrow as they mourn the loss of their wealth and pride due to xerxes’ impetuousness- his “unsanctioned overreach and the blindness that led to it.”
