I've been way too scared to interrogate the history of slavery and Muslims, truthfully. So much emphasis is placed upon prophetic companions like Bilal (who was a black man and a freed slave) and a lot of dancing around the topic because confronting the past makes us deeply uncomfortable.

Anyway, this is a personal rec. from the husband who encouraged me to, finally, confront our history, and where we go from here.
