This book has started out in a way that seems calm. Cassie is explaining what the heck is going on with the world. The waves first the power was gone, then the earthquakes came, then the infection spread, and now the others are among the humans. Cassie's story is quite complicated. She lost her family and she now is on her own hiking somewhere. This is what makes Cassie seem so weak but so powerful at the same time.

I have just passed into the part for Sam's story and he has just been put into a squad to train. Ben Parish Cassie's old crush is responsible for him and everyone is calling him nugget. He has just been put into P & D which is where they search corpses for valuable items. Such as watches or other items. It is a very gross process and my first reaction to this is why?
