I see that this will be a slow going. First, it's a borrowed paperback copy and I don't want to ruin the integrity of the cover. Second, the ornate, dense prose demands that I proceed at a deliberate pace. This book is not for the subway. It's for Saturday mornings in a chair with a dictionary nearby. And I am glad for that.
