It’s a big book but I suspect it’s not going to take very long, and if it stays like this I’ll wish it was longer.

Wow. I read til nearly dawn then reached for it again upon waking. 1100 pages in and not a dull one.

The imagery of the shipwreck victims kneeling as the water creeps over their shoulders. The child alone on the grim black coast. Bone-chilling. Then the encounter with Ursus, a tongue worthy of the best of Dickens curmudgeons. And now the most amusing portrait of Queen Anne’s court since I watched The Favourite.
