"dagger girls" wonder if they were real? If so? Cool concept

I can't stand when characters say they live each other but neither trusts the other

"No other man had taken such trouble to please her, not when they knew her simply as Edith."

The impact of the pestilence/plague on the people, especially children is heartbreaking.

"My Lady of Lilies." He swept her a low bow. "Is that your only name?" "My true name is impossible for the men of the West to speak. I would not shame you, Sir Ranulf, by asking you to attempt it." Nice save! (remember, she's pretending to be a Chinese princess, when really she's an English commoner)

she's pretending to be a Chinese princess to so no one questions her authenticity-no one would know any better.

According to the book, they were girls who dressed as Lads and followed the Tournements. They had daggers with them, but they didn't dress as boys to hide they were girls, the dresses were impractical. So I'm going to see if I can find out more :)
the author saw my status on twitter and said "The girls are mentioned in the sources for the time, so yes, they existed - 'tournament groupies'."
I asked her if they dressed as boys to avoid detection but she says,
"No, they dressed up, turned up at the tournaments, rode around showing off, spent money and hung around the knights."
So, hey, pretty cool! I didn't think that would be allowed back then.
I'd also love to know which sources she used, as that would an interesting book/article (whichever media it is) to read
