This book is fascinating. The author contagiously loves his work as an oceanographer (though he didn't find it until he'd trained as an engineer and then realized he was bored stiff with engineering tasks. He becomes an expert in using floating objects (natural, designed, accidental) to learn about the movement of oceans.
