How is it so far? I am interested in the subject matter so this book has always piqued my interest.

I mean if you are already interested in the topic... It's pretty easy to read actually, but so far not that much more than a piece on the Time-Periode imo. Mostly some hanging out with different nobles of St. Petersburg at the time and building up the families a bit.
And the chapters are extremely short!
I only don't know how it is in English of course - translation of foreign stuff tends to be a bit rough at times - so can't really judge that of course

Ah, I get you. I do plan on one day giving it a shot. When that day is, though, I cannot say haha. In all honesty it does intimidate me.

And understandably so... But as I said, chapters are extremely short and the book is suprisingly really approachable!
I also heard from a friend that it won't take too long until I'll want to switch to binge-reading... I would really not worry too much and just start with some chapters a day

That is good news! You've encouraged to put it higher on my TBR. I also thought that Crime and Punishment would be a hard read, but I was surprised to find that is isn't that difficult, and is very enjoyable. I imagine I may have the same experience with this book.
