“I think how effortless it is to lose oneself in words, and yet also find who you are.”
A complete surprise. I wasn’t very excited about this book and judged it most of the time, but it proved me wrong. About 1/2 way through I started to really like - the characters are sublime. The romance is transcendent. I always appreciated the subtleties and purity a YA can afford in romance. The war and plot formation felt a bit underdeveloped but thickened toward the end. I was left with a few holes - Iris made some decisions that didn’t seem natural for a young girl going through trauma. But, that didn’t put me off.
Rebecca Ross is a fairly raw writer and I can appreciate that.
The ending was a surprise. I tossed the book when I finished it. I am eager to read the next one.
