Switching between this and The Buried Giant is an experience in contrasts. Ishiguro's prose is a gradual and fog-shrouded as the world he writes in with characters whose past and secrets become slowly revealed. Kadrey goes fast from page 1. In just 7 pages, we learn the protagonist was on fire, just got back from Hell, and promptly knocks out a cokehead. I feel like I just went from reading Stardust to Constantine.
