This book is suffering from inflation.

“Wait.” Bruce turned to Johnson and asked, “Did he say ‘him’? As in a male mate?”
Instead of answering, Johnson looked back to Keith. “I assume that you didn’t leave your mate where the enforcers might try again while you came here, correct?”
“No, he said ‘him,’” Bruce insisted. “You did say he.”

“I want to take my time, Jay, but….” Letting out a small roar, Keith grabbed Jason, then flipped him over and lifted his hips into the air.
Jason scrambled to get his knees under himself, already panting from a mixture of fear and desire. “Wha’?”

Took about 30% to get the story back to good...but damn. That there makes the body clench in all the good ways.

"...However, you need to call your boyfriend over and tell him these things. He can’t show you your fears are wrong if he doesn’t know about them. I will say this, though —from what I saw of him, he’s smitten. A smitten kitten,” he singsonged before laughing again.

Jason had been raised by his grandy —grandfather— after his parents died in a car wreck when he was a baby, but he didn’t even have him now. His grandfather had passed away while Jason was in college.
I'm getting serious "dun dun dun!!" vibes from that...

He turned back to Keith. “And y-you, uh…”
“Turned into a cat? Yeah, I know.”
“Wow, you have even less tact than I thought,” Sasha grumbled.
“Sorry, but what did you want me say?” There was no easy way to say, “Hey, dude, I’m a cat part of the time.” Not to a human, at least.
