The setting in this book is a variation of many, many places. It takes place in current day in time most likely. I think it's 2014. Most of it takes place in the following: top secret military bases, Beaverton(Oregon), and a bit in space, but that isn't with the main character. It can't really take place any time before the 70's because in the book, the first alien photos are taken by one of the firs satellites.

The protagonist in Armada is a high school gamer boy named "Zack Lightman". In this book, Zack works at a video game store with his boss, Ray. His hobbies include playing the video game, "Armada" with his friends, digging through his late father's old stuff, and talking with Ray. He has a case of anger issues. There is a flashback in one part about why he got the nickname "Zack Attack". You can guess how.
