Why does this book start with Chapter 0? And why have a just experienced 8p of the densest collection of set theory definitions I've ever seen, starting with, "Did that in primary school" and rapidly progressing to "wtf?"

Wouldn't it be easier to understand a geometrical interpretation of topology? This set theoretical one is so abstract I have no idea what anything actually means.
