Chapter 8: Stunning! A sense of true crisis building from negligible to eleventy-one, and then bursting out onto the page...

Gotta love a book that references Monty Python. ♥

The aftermath of battle. More fantastic stuff! But I'm going dark to avoid spoilers. :-)

... The battle itself is extraordinarily told. So human and vital. Two characters transform - and how could they not, in such a situation? If this were a film I'd call it a magnificent set piece, and maybe that is the terminology to use. Just bloody fantastic stuff.

The chapter "Toghrul's Old Age" belies its apparently quiet title. Poor loveable Toggers is finally fully compromised, and a war is started though not honourably declared. Temujin and his few, his band of 19 brothers, muster what they can in response. Their journey to war is so sublimely told. The characters transcend themselves through good cheer and a willingness to do what's best. ...

The marvellous Gu'un Ghoa (so much love; you'll sense a theme), the appearance of a black goat, and an old warrior with the bestest name: Giddy Cogsegu. Another incredible chapter down, and I'm another stride towards hankering for Book Three.
