Thonius, why so fabulous?

Ok. So... the Warhammer 40k Universe is like if Game of Thrones had a lovechild with Merrimack, and replaced the space Romans with the space Inquisition. Threw out all the eyegouging sexy tiems and replaced with strong, badass women. Then proceeded to do its best to kill everyone, ever. Yeah, I see why everyone needs to be really competent and utterly ruthless. They're dead otherwise.

This matronly ship captain lost her nerve for dangerous missions because the last one she facilitated, she lost over 60% of her crew and half the ship. AND almost didn't get paid for damages by the govt employing her without a surviving member of the Inquisitor team pushing hard for it. She still plans to finish her commission OUT OF PROFESSIONALISM. - tiny detail but how awesome is that?

So... So far, Ravenor is like reading Merrimack. But with an entire likable cast. Also, it's far better written and the female characters are all awesome. Unfortunately no Augustus - but everything else more than makes up for it.
