Things got a little Horror-ish, there, for a couple of tales. Fine by me - those two stories were fun!

I'll finish this book up tonight - it wraps up with a long story from Wilkie Collins that hadn't seen the light of day for 140 years, and then showed up in Crime for Christmas!

Ha! Under the care of David G. Rowlands, Reggie Fortune would have made a fine assistant to Lockwood & Co..

Is there anyone more reliable for a good time than Agatha Christie? ‘A Christmas Tragedy’ - a Miss Marple story- is one of her Yuletide-related fictions I had not encountered yet, but I’m glad it got included in this anthology. Pretty cool story - and not all the stories in this book have been sounding my siren, as it were. An okay collection, so far - but maybe we’ve turned a corner in terms of the dazzle effect…

A pretty entertaining tale, was 'An Upright Woman' by H. R. F. Keating. Sort of reminded me of the old Hammer suspense film, Cash On Demand, starring Peter Cushing - but then it went its own way. Mrs. Prothero's ability to actually talk creeps into having second thoughts kind of reminded me of the Seventh Doctor's verbal skills against gunsels, in The Happiness Patrol.

'The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle' by Arthur Conan Doyle was a re-read for me, but fresh again as I had forgotten all of it. It was fun to read this tale so soon after a bunch of rather madcap Fredric Brown stories, because a jewel found in a Christmas goose would fit right in with some of Brown's plot hooks. If Brown gets a bit "far-fetched", it seems all the greats like wild scenarios. An HRF Keating story next.
