In the next part of this book, Ralph, goes with two other kids named Jack and Simon to climb a near mountain and verify that their group is on an island. When they get to the top, the author vividly describes the island, and emphasizes how small and mysterious it is. I think that this setting is important because it helps the author show that they are helplessly stuck, with no choice but to fight for their survival with hopes to somehow get out alive. This is great writing because it keeps the reader thinking and wondering about what will happen to them.
