NA drama and angst, with a very fast delivery. 😮‍💨
When you’re hit over the head with weak ass points, just seems like an empty plot, and shallow world building, yes?
Especially when those points are so juvenile and end up coming off as high school, from someone in their 20’s in a life and death setting. 🙄

Laura Anne Too much fantasy is YA/NA! But adult fantasy isn’t quick-read. So it’s like you have to pick your poison.

Going through an apocalypse phase, but want a few splashes of romance…😬❤️, so hard to find something that fits 🥺🫣

Laura Anne Well, it's a bit spicy, but Ruby Dixon's dragon series is pretty good apocalypse & it leans toward the erotica side of the romance spectrum.

😂❣️ I’ve read book 1, umming and ahhing, on whether to continue…

Read somewhere around 7 of ice barbarians. Worship her sense of humour!

I worship her ability to narrate in first-person, present tense! She's the only author I've been able to read using that narrative style. Yeah, the fire-dragon-apocalypse was an odd series for me, but hey, she was prescient. Dragon-shifter romance turned out to be HUGE. Like the Amish romances -- I'm still head-scratching over those.

Her ice planet series is a subversive one, IMO. In order to make the literal caveman lifestyle appealing, she had to use the alternative of intergalactic sex slavery. I'm still kind of shocked I read like 7 of them, myself ;) The books were fun, but forgettable. I think the only MC I truly hated was the whiny author. It was odd that Dixon made the author MC so utterly unappealing. As I was reading, I kept wondering whether I was supposed to read it ironically, or whether Dixon was issuing a cry for help.

TBH, I kinda thought she was having a dig at someone else…? Fellow Frenemy author.?

That series was a happy, dirty little secret, that you shared with EVERYONE 😂

Did you read her ‘Aspect and Anchor’ series?
I read B1, absolutely LOVED, but many parts are not what you expect from her..

I read some reviews for consecutive books that suggest she goes back to he more recognisable style, so not sure if I want to side step as yet..?

Laura Anne Loved the first two in 'Aspect & Anchor,' but kind of lost interest after. Sorry about the overshare (I can delete if you tell me ;) But hey, this is top drawer spicy! Not sure there's any other spice out there that actually has a plot/character. I bet Dixon makes BANK on her stuff. Maybe she followed the fantasy tropes a bit too closely for your taste in bk 1? IDK, I'm more of a fantasy reader, so I rather enjoyed the world she created & found the concept pretty cool. The reverse-portal fantasy of Bk 3 might be more in line with the rest of her stuff & I didn't read Bk 4. If you have KU, give Bk 2 a try, and if it doesn't appeal, skip ahead to the one set in the "real" world. I'll have to look and see if I reviewed this series. Maybe I should.

I’m a R. E. Fiest girl 😬

It was the solid fantasy that had me stuck like glue!
Was worried she gave in to more smut, less fantasy..
Will def try B2 THANK YOU❣️

She definitely hit payday, with the combo of fantasy, romance, smut-I mean humour 🥹

More Book Talk, More Book Talk 😍😍😍😍😍
