intriguing chapter on the differences of time (kairos and chronos) and how English versions of the Bible translate both as time, but there are differences in the meaning :O

Still wish this book wasn't just the Western pov and had both sides, or at least presented the Western pov and showed how it isn't always wrong in the spesific examples. I think it's too harsh on the Western pov and in some cases both povs work. It isn't full misinterpretation I suppose. And I guess that is what bothers me: the implication that I am reading the Bible wrong because of my culture.

Intriguing chapter. When we understand how something works (natural laws of the universe/science) we take God out of it.
We don't pray for people to be healed from colds because we know they will be from medicine - we start to have less faith in God.
The book brings up that perhaps it is why we fear the debate about creation. We don't want to take God out of creation which we might if we understand it.

Fascinating chapter on honor/shame and individual guilty conscious vs group shame. I'm not entirely sure I agree with one of the major points, but I do feel a little excited because a good bit of it made sense to me and I hope to ponder and learn more.

I'm feeling either anxious, angry or both, which might partially the intent. Call me soft, but I wish this was written more empathetically when pointing out all the grand flaws of American life and interpretation.
Am I convicted? I guess. Do I disagree with some of what they are saying, but I'm not quite sure of how much? Yes.
Frustration.

I love learning and getting new ideas but I just don't feel right.

This book is interesting. My eyes are opened to western differences in langauge, but I'm also slightly overwhelmed and occasionally frustrated, but I think the authors might have warned of that before? Idk. Interesting.

Understandable read so far (yay!) and I do think it is - as it warned - going to unsettle me some as the book brings up cultural assumptions of reading the Bible and I realize I might not know everything. Oi my pride.

Little nervous because the textbook in one of my classes is nearly impossible to understand - but I do hear this book (same class) is a lot better
