Chinese history starting around 1750 is a string of events worthy of a fantasy novel!
I'm up to the Civil War of 1946 and it just keeps coming. The book itself is a bit convoluted in style so sometimes you have to read the same set of paragraphs a few times to understand who is who and what exactly is going down the tubes...

If this one is good, I am drawn to have a look at it. Chinese history is somewhat a mystery to me (before 20th century). I am not even sure how their history writing works, how they store information for what I know, the sense of time is totally different.

It covers everything up to 1600 very quickly and then really slows down and gets detailed when the Communist Party turns up in the 1920s. So, I don't think it's one for you if you already know the 20th century stuff!
But if you can find something about China between 1700 and 1850...VERY interesting!
