Notes:
(1) "I hoped [Sam and Alex] were going to formulate a cunning plan to get us all out of Aegir’s hall alive."
- Yet another '80s reference for the YA crowd. I guess "Blackadder" must have aired on PBS, or else Riordan caught it much later on DVD.
(2) I wonder if there's any method or point to all the '80s music mentions?
- "Funkytown" by Lipps Inc. seems awful random.

Notes:
(1) I didn't expect that Jason Grace mention at the end.
- Never caught it previously, since I only just read "The Trials of Apollo" for the first time.
(2) Especially toward the end, this book was all about Magnus telling his friends how great they are.
- Particularly Alex who—don't shoot me—isn't close to deserving all the praise he/she gets. I'm talking about fawning, awestruck praise over ordinary heroism.

Notes:
(1) This flyting challenge is essentially the battle rap scene from "8 Mile."
- I half-expected Magnus to bust out a line about "mom's spaghetti."
(2) If they ever make a film adaptation, I see them having to change the ending.
- The power of positivity winning the day would be super-corny and unsatisfying in live-action. It's barely feasible as the climax of a book.

Notes:
(1) Jack: "An act like that affects your wyrd."
Magnus: "You mean it affects you weirdly?"
Jack: "No. Your wyrd."
Magnus: "You’re weird."
Blitzen: "He means fate."
- Classic Riordan, if awfully overused here. In addition to wyrd, there's also puns about Bragi/braggy and murder (of crows).
(2) More demigods!? I may be wrong, but I don't think human demigods are really a thing in Norse mythology.
- Feels forced.

Notes:
(1) "Jack followed me around the deck, alternating between Abba hits (Vikings are huge Abba fans)."
- Makes sense, being Swedish, ABBA presumably comes from good Viking stock.
(2) "A ceramic warrior. As in magic pottery?"
- Being magic, I'd name the warrior Harry Pottery.
(3) Every time I hear Kvasir's Mead I think Courvoisier.
- They're both liquors and sound alike.

Notes:
(1) The family mansion is sort of like Grimmauld Place in "Harry Potter."
- It's inherited by kids, and its spooky interior's prowled for clues.
- I wish it had a name. Is it not a thing for American dwellings to have names? Does "The Whitehouse" count? At least give it an address and do a 221B Baker Street with it.
(2) "I sighed at the Magnus in the mirror."
- Ah yes, already an '80s reference, and a pun too.

Notes:
(1) Third book in the series, third narrator.
- Hoping this Michael Crouch more than just oversteps the series' woefully low bar.
(2) I'll admit, it took me a while to warm up to Alex last book.
- Though still not endearing, the wedding sequence rendered him/her far less irritating and tiresome, IMO... don't shoot me!
(3) My original review sucks! It's embarrassing. I need to redeem myself with a new good one!
