I adore you Somerset but you're wrong about the Brontes. Charlotte not only can write, she leaves the competition coughing up dust. Jane Eyre!!!

"Every author knows that after writing for a few hours he [or she] is physically exhausted." Maugham makes me feels good, yet again.

Dear Georgia, thank you for alerting me to this valuable book by an author who I thought had nothing more to offer me! I'm glad to see you have recovered well from your head-over-heels experience with Thornton Wilder. Best wishes, Andrew B. Noselli

His essays are like conversations over good wine, cheese, and bread. Intelligent and entertaining. Enjoying these "visits" with him in the south of France.
I think my favorite book by the Brontes is Villette. I read Jane Eyre in high school and I would prefer not to revisit it.

Lol. I may perhaps get to it within the next ten years... Right now I'm starting the Mismeasure of Man by Stephen Jay Gould, and scoping out which books to purchase on Kindle by Carlo Rovelli. I'm on a science kick. Good luck, Georgia !
