This is not what I was expecting and the pace is rather slow. So far I'm not very intrigued yet, but I hope that will come soon! I do love the setting. The social themes that have come up so far regarding colonialism and racism in the 1800's upperclass have been well worked out. From what I read Kuang does her research with deep passion grown from personal experience. And that bit did not disappoint at all.
