The last paragraph of Chapter 29 felt a little plot armor-y. Too contrived.

There are some unbelievable things about Ruby showing up. Her conversation with a girl who is also ~11 years near the end of the book sounds way too mature and well studied (for both of them) in the opposite language. There is no way Ruby remembered an entire phrase in Italian which she'd never heard before or again after her first hearing, and be able to repeat it perfectly days later.

Finally, something unsettling.

Perhaps I don’t know what to expect from a suspense novel, but halfway through, I'm not really uncomfortable at all. Almost bored--the only parts that make me interested are Ruby and Julian's POVs, and that's only because I'm expecting them to go head to head eventually, but so far...eh? Nothing super off-putting to me yet.
