(Spoiler) how happy- old couple returns from the ravishes of war to find that their tamed friend baby fox and his mom died of starvation while caught in a bear trap, and decayed into flowers.

(Spoiler) seriously how many baby foxes need to die I think you've made your point

Finally finished book 1! On to book 2; we are introduced to a little fox family with new todds all learning to hunt and play and it's so cute.... they're all going to die horribly, aren't they?

Serious this is the hardest book I've read... and that's even accounting for Finnegans Wake.
AND WHY IS IT SO SAD
Japanese friend says they use cute little foxes and make them suffer for dramatic effect. ..................

Not being familiar with names is difficult ... When you wonder why abstract concepts like "Peace" are being personified... Ohhh they're actually characters
