Enjoyable in its somewhat blank and shiny way, this novel about a skilled craftsman who abandons plumbing to return to his previous job as a metal worker specialising in producing artworks for the super rich (Jeff Koons looms large), is funny and jarring but so far seems to lack the bite my I was expecting. Still got 100 passes to go so maybe things will change…

Dry as wood shavings in a carpenter's workshop, as pungent as the urine-soaked fields at the Handwerkerfrühschoppen, this is a real cracker: funny, absurd and genuine. Looking forward to devouring this in a few sittings.
