Jeannette is very admirable because even through the worst of times, she manages to stay strong. Her whole childhood, she was homeless or on the run and her family wasn't very stable. She managed to grow up and marry someone she truly loved and live in a real and pretty house."A few days after... I cooked myself hotdogs"(248). This is important because she was burned making hotdogs and got right back at it.

One example of figurative language is "If the sandstorm was really strong, it knocked you over, and you rolled around like a tumbleweed"(22). This shows how strong the sandstorms could be and how harsh her childhood life was. When she got caught in a sandstorm, she would fall and whirl around just like tumbleweeds do in the wind. This shows the power of sandstorms because humans are much heavier than tumbleweeds.
