Mr. Hoppy kept exchanging Mrs. Silver's tortoise. He finally asks to marry her. One significant quote is, " You are about to go for a little ride" (29). This is significant because he picks up the old tortoise everytime he replaces the tortoises with a new one. He does this so he can fulfill Mrs. Silver's wish and win her over.
