Charlie tells the reader about the senior prank at his school which was filling the pool with grape Kool-Aid. Meanwhile, all of Charlie's friends and his sister are talking about prom or graduation.

Charlie makes the mistake by actually going through with Patrick's dare by kissing the prettiest girl the room. The problem is he picks Sam instead of Mary Elizabeth.

Mary Elizabeth asks Charlie to the dance and after asks him out. I was kind of waiting for this to happen.

Charlie says in his letter that he is considered "extremely depressed" and if it gets worse he's scared he might have to go to the doctor again.

Charlie says he loves Sam and he also says he wasn't to be a writer when he's older.

Charlie is introduced as a main character and is writing these letters to someone he doesn't know. Also his good friend Michael dies.
