It's weird reading this alongside XMFC. Both titles star the original core five X-Men but while the other one is clean, good fun that's humorous and relaxing, this one has a darker tinge, as gritty and as TDKR as it can get. It's still rather intriguing though.

I suppose this is a considerable prologue for the sixties era of the X-Men. It got really dark and weird but I suppose it worked to give the Original Core Five some murkier and violent origins but this interpretation definitely has a dissonance with the much colorful and lighthearted tone of Stan Lee's writing. But I enjoyed this nonetheless. It was substantial enough.

So things are getting intense. This has a nice concept but something feels a bit off reading the delivery. I only have two issues left.

Yup, this one definitely has a TDKR tonality and approach going on. Real-life gritty superheroes and all that plus loads of familiar neo-Nazi parallels concerning mutant discrimination. Still not entirely convinced it's working. I'm only in issue 2. Let's see where it goes from here.

This is like an attempt to imitate the visual style of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, if not including the linguistic style. I'm still too early in the story to conclude if it was done with great taste. So far, I like how Scott is portrayed here, and Charles looks hot and creepy all at once.
