super sorry to r who i initially doubted as a memory police in hiding when he recognized emerald (i thought it's a jade tbh) and perfume. turns out he's gifted to remember and now he's in quarantine in the unnamed narrator's basement. the disappearance of roses floating on the river too is so beautifully sad to me.
