I predict they will move once again only his time someone will get lost.

This book is very fast paced. They keep moving and bad things keep happening.

Jeanette's moms does not want to go to work. She has a mental breakdown. Jeanette joins the school newspaper as a way to leg go and learn more about her peers.

After the death of Urma dad goes ona drinking spree. Once they find him and take him home Jeanette has to do some stitches.

With the half finished paint job on the house, it still looks poor. They are having a garbage problem, and basically living in dirt.

The kids get enrolled in school but the principal doesn't understand their accents (and vice versa) so the kids get put in a special needs class. Jeanette gets bullied by and African American girl who later befriends her when Jeanette helps a black boy being chased by a dog.

They find heir way to welch after a month long drive due to their slow, beaten up car. Urma and Ted welcome them , but not in the way expected.

Jeanette asks her dad to stop drinking as a birthday gift. Their car breaks down during a trip to the Grand Canyon. He agrees and they move in with his grandparents in West Virginia after the fight, and after he starts drinking again.

Jeanette's dad receives a vintage lighter on Christmas from the family, but because he is so intoxicated he throws it onto the tree. The tree caught on fire and burned all the presents with it. Dad sat there laughing at what he had done.

Billy, Jeanette's boyfriend, shows up at her house with a BB gun and shoots the windows because she doesn't like him anymore. Before the cops came Jeanette's family decides to leave to Phoenix to not get caught up in more trouble.
