Abraham Lincoln is a honest man. When talking about the state of the Union he is frank. He states, "During this time of war I will not say that the union is perfectly together in fact I think the union is in shambles. To win this war and reunite with our southern brethren, we must have heart and fight for the Union" (127). Throughout his speech he mentions how we are brothers not enemies.

Abraham Lincoln is frustrated. During this war the general's lack of experience showed. Lincoln had to fire and hire new generals over 6 times. While talking to General Grant at the end of the war he states,"General, I have hired and fired many men. Now I know your reputation and how many battles you have won, but please don't make me fire you" (167). THis shows why Abraham Lincoln should be frustrated.

Abraham Lincoln is very intelligent. He used his wit to strategize how to win the Civil War. He said, " To win this war we must divide and conquer"(53). This quote means that to win the war, Abraham Lincoln needed to use his mind. This is why Abraham Lincoln was samrt enough to win the war.

Abraham Lincoln is kind. During the Black Hawk War a lost elderly native, who was starving, came to there camp. When everyone else wanted to kill him, instead Lincoln sided with the native and said, " He announced to the soldiers that if they wanted to harm the old man they would have to go through him" (17). This shows how Lincoln was kind to a man he didn't know.
