Really beginning to enjoy this epistolary novel as I do research on the author Hannah Webster Foster and her heroine Eliza Wharton, who is based on a real woman, Elizabeth Whitman. Amazing how contemporary if feels in theme if not in style. It's so American.

Reading this as I get ready to teach an online American Literature I class this fall. I'm fairly strong when it comes to American Romanticism, but not to strong on Colonial lit. Looking forward to reading the two novels as well as the commentary.
