Hazel has had a bad headache for the last couple of pages in the book and then on the last page of the chapter, something bad happens to her. I wonder if she will be ok and what will happen next?

After Hazel found out the Augustus got an email from Peter van Houten through his assistant, she knew that she had to email him. I think this was a big moment for her because she had tried so many times to get him to answer her letters and he never did.

While Hazel is at the mall, a little girl walks up to her and said to her, "What's in your nose?" This doesn't offend Hazel which was surprising because the little girl's mom wasn't happy that she asked that kind of a question. Hazel let the little girl put the cannula in her nose. I think this was very kind of Hazel.

It's Hazel's half birthday and everyone makes sure to tell her "Happy Half Birthday!" Usually we don't celebrate half birthdays but since she is sick, they celebrate every half birthday. I think her parents get very excited for her half birthday because it means that Hazel gets to celebrate more since they don't know how long she will live.

Hazel meets Augustus at support group and while they are standing outside, Augustus takes a cigarette out. Hazel got really mad at him but he said that he never lights one. It is a metaphor. I think in this part of the book, I learned a lot about who Augustus is.

The book starts off by saying, "But, in fact, depression is not a side effect of cancer. Depression is a side effect of dying." In this quote, I can really tell how hard it is for Hazel to have cancer.
