I legit feel irritated at how academic and not queer this book is I don't know why they described it this way. Had I picked up a book called "heavily academic essays from critical x studies wherein people might mention something queer maybe" I would be enjoying this so far. Well written, but not at all what I was expecting from a talk with some authors including Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore.

I am pleased to report that I finally picked this back up and after the first section of essays, the book is no longer insufferably jargony (barely) queer theory. Still plenty of academic exercises, but ones you can actually read without punishing your brain. I am no longer mad lol but they should have either scattered those throughout or tossed them at the end. Terrible intro for what should be a wider audience.

This is starting off more academic than I thought it would be. I hope it's not all this way. I dislike when academic texts are labeled as "radical queer movement work." Academia has it's place, and the intro acknowledges academic provides, but if most people can't access the text, who is it for?
